Yao Zheng s an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and an IEEE Senior Member. He received his B.S. degree in Microelectronics from Fudan University in 2007, M.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 2011, and Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Applications from Virginia Tech in 2016. He was also a Visiting Scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) between 2024 and 2025. His research focuses on intelligent wireless systems, including integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), programmable wireless environments and reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS), RF/mmWave sensing, software-defined radio systems, and hardware–software–AI co-design, with applications in biomedical sensing, smart agriculture, intelligent transportation, autonomous systems, and resilient infrastructure.
